Born and raised in Melbourne, Colin Fuller trained at the School of American Ballet, earned a B.F.A. from Juilliard, and danced across Europe before returning home to lead the contemporary division at Brevard Ballet Academy.
Not every world-class dancer has to leave Brevard County to be discovered — some of them come from here. Colin Fuller, who leads the contemporary division at Brevard Ballet Academy, was born, raised, and began dancing right here in Melbourne, Florida, before a career that took him to the School of American Ballet, Juilliard, and stages across Europe.
From Melbourne to the School of American Ballet
Colin began his training in Melbourne and went on to study at the prestigious School of American Ballet in New York City — the official school of the New York City Ballet. His talent and dedication earned him a Jerome L. Greene Fellowship to attend The Juilliard School, one of the most selective performing-arts conservatories in the world, where he earned his B.F.A. in 2016.
An International Contemporary Career
Colin’s education did not stop at graduation. He went on to study at the Paris Opera Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), William Forsythe’s program in Berlin, and Springboard Danse Montréal. Along the way he performed works by some of the most important choreographers in modern dance history, including José Limón, Merce Cunningham, Lar Lubovitch, and Peter Martins.
That freelance career — spanning Europe, New York, and Florida — is exactly the kind of experience that gives a contemporary teacher real authority. Colin has lived the repertoire he now shares with his students.
Contemporary Dance at Brevard Ballet Academy
While Brevard Ballet Academy is rooted in the classical Vaganova method, the academy believes that versatility makes stronger, more expressive dancers. Under Colin’s direction, BBA offers contemporary dance classes in Brevard County for a range of levels, giving students the chance to explore movement beyond the classical vocabulary while building on their ballet foundation.
For students considering a pre-professional path, the ability to move fluently between classical and contemporary work is increasingly essential — most college programs, competitions, and companies expect it. Having a Juilliard-trained contemporary specialist on faculty is a genuine advantage for serious dancers on the Space Coast.
