Behind every great ballet school is a carefully structured curriculum — the year-by-year plan that turns a three-year-old’s first plié into a pre-professional dancer’s technique. At Brevard Ballet Academy, much of that structure bears the fingerprints of Michele “Mimi” MacDonald.
A Career in Dance Education
Mimi is a dance education consultant who specializes in ballet teacher preparation. She graduated from Principia College with a minor in dance and earned a Master’s Degree in dance education from Temple University. During twelve years in Philadelphia she co-directed a non-profit ballet company and studied Vaganova methodology with John White at the Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet — one of the most respected Vaganova training centers in the United States.
Building BBA’s Curriculum
Mimi has served as guest faculty at five colleges and universities. Combining that teacher-training background with founder Elena Shokhina’s authentic Vaganova knowledge, Mimi helped develop the detailed, progressive curriculum now used across every level at Brevard Ballet Academy — from Creative Movement through the pre-professional division.
